Terrestris Redivivus is a remanufacturing facility for construction and demolition waste. Built at an immense scale with an impermanent, modular logic, the project acknowledges building material lifespan while questioning it’s conventional application. The agile infrastructure accepts breached enclosure panels and tethers structural polystyrene blocks. Construction materials that would not normally see the light of day are left exposed and pigmented with the same aesthetic rationale as safety color codification.
The facility engages in the research, production, and deployment of new construction material configurations, and interfaces with the public through an on-site design center where new material proposals are presented physically and digitally. Green screens and geographically integrated digital design tools let customers explore alternative material applications within their own projects. Whether a customer is interfacing in-person or online, a suite of tools, including dynamically annotated product displays, performance specifications, and environmental impact data are available for their use.
