Throughout my professional career I have benefited greatly from being able to teach a diversity of students a wide variety of subject matter. As a Filmmaker in NYC, I taught stop-motion animation to elementary students in Chinatown. As a Curator at the Children’s Museum of the Arts, I organized exhibitions of contemporary art and created gallery guides that connected the students’ hands-on learning to the art they saw within the exhibitions.
My partner and I founded and ran a children’s art studio in Algiers Point, New Orleans for many years. Throughout architecture graduate school I led design studios for high schoolers interested in architecture. Teaching, for me, provides the opportunity to give back and support the ambitions of young people. It is an opportunity to listen to new voices, be inspired by different perspectives, and develop new approaches that expand access to design fields.
