Detroit Horse Power (DHP) is a Detroit-based non-profit organization dedicated to empowering and facilitating safe and meaningful learning experiences for at-risk teens through equestrian-based activities.
In 2019, DHP reached an agreement with the Detroit Public Schools Community District to build an
urban equestrian center
facility on a 14-acre demolished school site.
Our Dow Sustainability team was formed and tasked with researching the best manure management system for DHP. This management system must be sustainable, affordable, nuisance free, and embraced by the community. As an interdisciplinary group of graduate students at the University of Michigan, our team has combined our holistic and impact-focused skill sets to create a report of manure management best practices and recommendations for DHP’s new facility.
